Onebag.Travel

A community and resource hub for one-bag travelers. Built and run by me.

What it is

A resource hub for people who travel with one bag: bag specs, airline carry-on limits, and packing lists.

Every backpack gets real specs and a fit score: the share of airlines whose carry-on limits it meets. The airline side covers size and weight rules for nearly 200 carriers, each with a source. Head-to-head comparisons and packing lists by destination fill in the rest.

I've run it since 2017 and it has never turned a profit. That's a feature. It means the site can tell you not to buy a bag.

The public site is static and built with Eleventy, so it's fast and cheap to run. The old ASP.NET app lives on as the admin tool for editing the data.

Bag specs now get checked against the community one-bag spreadsheet, which tracks 433 bags and 148 airlines and moves faster than I do. A script diffs the two and I approve the changes before anything gets written.

A look around
